TaskHuman Talks: Expanding Consciousness Through Movement Therapy

“It is putting body and mind into conversation in a productive feedback loop that nourishes both at the same time.”
Dance movement healing can support people in several areas, from professional dissatisfaction in life to habit-breaking, to improving boundary setting and nervous system regulation. In this TaskHuman Talks Podcast episode, coaches Jamie Carroll y Rachele Preda discuss how you can align your thoughts, perceptions, and actions through this embodied activity. Whether you’ve used this modality before, or are seeking a new tool for self-improvement and personal growth, Rachele Preda can help you get started!
What Does Dance Movement Healing Encompass?
Dance movement therapy goes deeper than just the physical action of dance — it uses a range of movements (like gestures or postures) as a powerful tool to tap into your feelings/emotions and facilitate healing and self-discovery. Dance is part of the name because of the “creativity and freedom that the body has to express and move in non-prescriptive ways,” Coach Rachele describes below.
The Core Elements of Dance Movement Healing
There are three basic elements of dance movement therapy — a mover, a witness, and the relation between the two. Someone exploring movement healing may practice both roles and, through coach support, explore the relationship between the two. After a moment of movement in a safe 1:1 coaching environment, coaches can support your process of owning and reflecting on the experiences.
Dance Movement Healing In Practice
Healing modalities like dance movement are increasingly popular because of their unique ability to incorporate the body in processing and repairing emotions. Bridging the gap between the mind and body (disrupting the polarity, as Rachele describes) can offer a deeper understanding of how you interpret and process the world around you. This process is all a part of finding what works best for usted. Says Coach Rachele, “There is no one single recipe that works every day.”
