TaskHuman Coaches, Kartikey Shukla and Sylvia Das, talked about how the practice of Tai Chi brought them closer together and encouraged them to make a major change in how they lead their lives by leaving the corporate world behind, with host and fellow Coach Jamie Carroll in a recent episode of the podcast, TaskHuman Talks.

With endless to-do lists, looming deadlines at work, over-packed schedules and technology making us more connected than ever, it should come as no surprise as to why we are all feeling burned out. The days blur together. Lost in the hustle of corporate jobs in Singapore, TaskHuman Coaches Kartikey and Sylvia, like many of us, knew something had to change. Tired of feeling worn-out and in search of a way to slow down, they found Tai Chi to help them re-energize and recenter.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial arts practice that is often referred to as shadowboxing—mixing both defense training with moving meditation, with breathwork and energy work. There are sufficient reasons why it has been practiced for over 1500 years.

“Tai Chi has immense benefits and a lot of medical research is being done with Tai Chi. There’s so much you can achieve with Tai Chi,” Kartikey shares.

A few of the benefits of Tai Chi are:

  • Improved flexibility
  • Muscle development
  • Better balance
  • Aerobic conditioning
  • Management of arthritis, back pain and chronic diseases like diabetes, Parkinson’s, dementia, and heart conditions
  • Fall prevention
  • Coping with grief and improving mental well-being

The practice also offers ways to find deeper connections and areas to improve beyond the mind and body. The focus on the breath. The energy exchange. Moving and feeling as if you are like a breeze in the trees. The essence of Tai Chi is finding stillness in motion and balance.

“Tai Chi movement principles are based on nature; nature is balanced on yin-yang,” Sylvia explains.

Everything has a balance in nature—and the yin-yang is a great symbol of that—so why not tap into and find that balance within our own lives?

In tune with yin-yang, synergistically moving together and now instructing through the TaskHuman platform, Kartikey and Sylvia are sharing the keys to unlocking your inner energy source, improving your balance, and overall, just gaining a new perspective with how we live our lives.

By practicing mindfulness, gratitude and forgiveness, Kartikey believes “these three ingredients [are] just what we need to heal ourselves, heal our society, and everyone in it.”
