Carol Piro, a Soul Doula, Can Help You Find Your True Self

1. Unconscious Trauma Affects How We Interact with Our World
Most of us have some sort of unconscious childhood trauma. We experience or witness adult emotions or actions that we don’t understand. Then, because we are too young to fully analyze the situation, and because of our age, we internalize the event and make it mean something about us.
“We make it mean something about us that isn’t necessarily true,” Carol says.
These meanings that we give the trauma develop into false beliefs and because those beliefs hurt, we suppress them. Ultimately they remain locked in our bodies on a cellular level, and continue to affect us later in life.
When you work with a practiced healer, they can help you dig into your past and find the root cause of your belief. They can help you find the keys to your own self-healing.
“When we really understand it,” she says, “we are less likely to repeat that pattern again.”
The healer helps you find the adult perspective on the trauma. When you can see what happened through new eyes, it can lose its hold over you.
“As an adult, we can hold that wounded inner child in our adult bodies,” Carol says, “and just be like, ‘It’s ok. I’ve got this now.’”
2. Our Resistance Points to Our Trauma
Carol uses chakras, which are focal points used in a variety of meditation practices, to work with body energy to find where the soul wounds are. Things that are blocked, overstimulated, or under stimulated can shed light on where the trauma centers. She points out that resistance is evidence for our wounds.
Signs of your resistance can be more than just not wanting to do something. It could be your impatience, your feelings of overwhelm, or your financial decisions.
It is anything “that is not in the flow of our pure soul energy,” she says. “We react, not respond.”
The resistance is the sign of the work that needs to be done. Once you recognize your resistance, you need to have an open, curious mind and ask why you’re doing what you’re doing. What fear is driving you toward your current action?
3. To Heal, Release Limiting Beliefs
When you release your limiting beliefs, or false beliefs, you are saying that you are worthy and whole, just as you are. You don’t need to have something or do something to be loved. It is a powerful thought and creates powerful feelings.
To fully get there, it’s important to have a qualified coach who can push you in gentle and appropriate ways to uncover your truths.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare your mind and body for healing. And the preparation starts with the breath.
“Breath is the foundation,” Carol says.
To take conscious, deep, full breaths, we increase our vibrational energy. We bring in more life.
“The breath can work to recharge the physical body, calm your emotions, clear the mind, and the best part is it really helps you connect to your spirit,” she says.
Breathing into the fullness of ourselves takes practice, and it takes time for the practice to develop into a habit. But it pays off, and it is accessible to everyone.
“You’re always breathing anyway,” Carol says, “Why not use it?”
Carol recommends starting with 10 full, complete breaths and working your way up to 100 breaths each day.
4. False Beliefs Feel Good
If realizing we have false beliefs and then simply refusing to believe them is how to break through mental barriers, then why do we still have so many?
Because our brains train us to think the false beliefs feel good. We create a feedback loop that confirms our false belief. For example, you have a false belief that no one wants to hear your voice, or they don’t value your opinion, so you don’t speak up in the meeting. No one asks you for your opinion, and the whole event reinforces your idea that people do not value your opinion and you have no voice.
Even though we didn’t get emotionally positive feedback from the event, our brains are “happy” because they like being right. And we proved ourselves right.
To break the false belief, we have to actively practice new beliefs (“I haven’t spoken up in a meeting before, but people will want to know my opinion.”) We have to rewire our brains and develop new neural pathways.
“Awareness is the first step to healing,” Carol says.
Our thought patterns and how we are showing up in the world are second-nature to us. We need to learn to make different choices. And that learning comes best with the guidance of a good coach.
“If you think you’re going to do this stuff on your own,” Carol says, “Good luck with that. We make excuses and justifications and rationalizations” for our behaviors.
To successfully redirect your brain, you need someone who is skilled in not letting you slip back into your old thought patterns and behavior practices.
5. Manifestation Requires Believing “As If”
Most people base their future on their past. Something won’t (or will) happen because it never (or always) has happened. If they manage to think about the present, it’s often based on what they want but they lack.
Neither of these scenarios are great for manifesting the life you want. Carol explains that consciously manifesting means you need to think and feel as if you already have it.
“You are feeling whatever it is you want in your life AS IF it’s already present,” she says.
Because we’re vibrational beings, our thoughts and emotions send signals into the universe. Those signals attract or repel things into or from our lives. We are all already creating our lives, just most of the time we aren’t thinking about doing it.
We need to decide if we want to “create by default or create deliberately.” To start, clean up your thoughts and recognize that you are ready and willing to receive. Then, practice feelings of gratitude and relief by spending a few minutes each morning thinking and feeling as though your day went exactly the way you want it to.
“Be happy about the vision,” Carol says.
When things do not go the way you hoped, it doesn’t mean something went wrong. It means you’re human. You lost control of your thoughts. You fell back into false beliefs about yourself and scrambled your vibrational sequence.
“You are going to get some of what you want and some of what you don’t want,” Carol says.
Stagnation is another form of resistance. When we feel stuck or unfulfilled, we are using the limiting beliefs about ourselves to dictate what we do, and we are out of flow with our true selves.
Carol admits that the work to uproot false beliefs is hard and can be intense. That is why she is specific about people she coaches.
“You gotta be ready,” she says, “Gotta be willing. Gotta be committed.”
The work may be hard, but the prize is sweet. We get back to ourselves, “back to home,” she says.
She reminds us, “the medicine that works best is the most bitter.”
