“By using astrology as a roadmap — rather than a fortune-teller — we can empower ourselves to take informed actions more likely to lead to personal and professional success.”

The opportunity to explore diverse methods of self-improvement through TaskHuman brings greater clarity, confidence, and resilience. In particular, astrology can be a powerful tool to help us understand patterns and cycles that can influence us in ways we may not immediately recognize. Some of these benefits can include:

  • Greater Self-Awareness – Understanding personal strengths, communication styles, and work tendencies can lead to better collaboration and leadership.

  • Support Career Development – Identifying natural aptitudes and growth opportunities can help employees align with roles and projects where they thrive.

  • Improve Decision-Making – By recognizing patterns in personal tendencies and timing, individuals can make more informed choices in business and life.

  • Strengthen Team Dynamics – Astrology can provide insight into different personality types, improving workplace relationships and teamwork.

Follow along as Holistic Life Coach Jamie Carroll breaks down what astrology is (and, importantly, what it’s not), and how to leverage it for maximal growth.

What Is Astrology?

Astrology is the study of planetary movements, positions, and their influence on various aspects of life—including business, relationships, and the world around us. It has long been used as a tool for self-understanding, enhancing decision-making, and recognizing the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.

Many people dismiss astrology as “woo-woo,” associating it solely with horoscopes or Sun signs. In reality, astrology is deeply woven into our daily lives—often in ways we don’t even realize. Astrology reveals the intricate interplay of influences that shape us.

For example:

  • Lunar Cycles – People commonly notice emotional shifts around the new and full moons. Women’s menstrual cycles, averaging 28 days, also mirror the moon’s cycle.

  • Solar Cycles – We celebrate birthdays yearly, marking the Sun’s full return to its original position in our birth chart.

  • Planetary Movements – While most of us may not track the specific movements of planets like Mercury or Venus, many people notice how certain times feel smoother or more challenging. Many people report feeling more scattered or experiencing communication breakdowns simultaneously during Mercury retrograde, even if they don’t actively follow astrology.

  • Seasons and Eclipses – The changing of seasons and the occurrence of eclipses also influence our moods and decisions. While we don’t always tie these shifts to their astrological significance, they often mark moments of change, reflection, or heightened energy.

Despite these factors, astrology is met with skepticism. However, much of this doubt stems from misconceptions—let’s take a closer look at some common myths.

Addressing Myths Around Astrology

Myth #1: Astrology is used as a psychic tool.

While astrology can give us insight into future possibilities, it doesn’t provide definite predictions. Planetary movements—known as transits— influence patterns in our lives. Looking at past trends and patterns can help us make better personal and professional decisions. Astrology is most useful as a tool for guidance, helping us make informed choices while understanding that the future is never set in stone.

For example, understanding the cycles in your astrological chart can help you better align with the most opportune moments to launch a project, negotiate a deal, or make important decisions.

Myth #2: Astrology isn’t scientific.

Though not classified as a science in the traditional sense, astrology is a centuries-old system based on observation, pattern recognition, and archetypal psychology. Astrologers have spent millennia observing the movements of planets and stars, correlating these with human behavior and events on Earth. Rather than presenting hard, unchanging facts, astrology offers insights and reflections that can be a powerful tool for self-awareness.

Like astrology, modern psychological and therapeutic methods (cognitive behavioral therapy, for example), rely on understanding patterns in human behavior to encourage growth. Systems like Myers-Briggs—a widely used personality tool in the business world—also categorize individuals based on specific traits to understand behavior patterns. Like astrology, Myers-Briggs offers a framework for exploring strengths, challenges, and potential growth areas, helping to create better work dynamics and personal development strategies.

Myth #3: Astrology boxes people into rigid categories.

While a daily horoscope can offer a general idea for millions of people, a full astrology chart looks at multiple factors that make each person unique. Astrology doesn’t put us in a box—we often do that to ourselves. People tend to hold onto labels that don’t truly define them, and society reinforces this with set rules and expectations. Just like we’re more than our job title or personality type, astrology shows that we are complex and ever-changing. When approached with an open mind, astrology helps us learn and grow instead of feeling stuck.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Astrology goes beyond predictions and forecasts—it’s a tool for aligning with the natural rhythms of life. It encourages a holistic approach to personal development where we understand ourselves as part of a larger, interconnected universe.

In a professional setting, astrology can provide valuable insights into work styles, motivation, leadership tendencies, and team compatibility. A full birth-chart analysis considers multiple factors—such as Mercury for communication style or Mars for drive and ambition—offering a more nuanced understanding. These insights can help leaders determine the best timing for expansion, identify complementary partnerships, and improve team dynamics by recognizing and leveraging each member’s unique strengths.
